On January 18th, a 500 ton new energy pure electric cargo ship jointly developed by Huzhou Port and Waterway Administration Bureau and Shanghai Ruihua Group Co., Ltd. in Zhejiang Province passed expert evaluation and is about to enter commercial operation.

It is understood that the ship adopts a supercapacitor plus power lithium battery propulsion system to replace diesel power. It has fast start-up, zero emissions, low noise, and operating costs only one-sixth of that of diesel cargo ships of the same tonnage. After the Spring Festival, the electric freight ship will be put into operation, transporting coal between Jiaxing Zhapu Port and Changxing Power Plant Terminal. At the same time, charging piles will be built in the three water service areas of Huzhou Navigation Area to effectively solve the problem of ship navigation electricity supply. This is also a major highlight of the establishment of a national demonstration zone for the transformation and development of inland water transportation in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province, and the promotion of green water transportation and new energy ships.

On January 18th, staff were plugging charging wires into a pure electric cargo ship. The electric cargo ship can travel 200 to 300 kilometers on a single charge, with a charging time of approximately 6 to 8 hours.
